I was invited by Guildhall School of Music and Drama to discuss politics and alternative musical histories and diversified musical imaginations with author and musician, Nate Holder.
The opening provocations explored the idea of finding identity as an artist. What role can the Conservatoire play in critically engaging with the idea of ‘Identity’? How do we find our identity as artists in current social contexts? What does it mean to be a student or staff member at a Conservatoire in the UK?
Guildhall’s Music and Politics series was led by Nell Catchpole, Jan Hendrickse & Jo Gibson. It explored some of the most pressing themes and issues of concern to performing artists. The sessions included elements of presentation and discussion and encouraged participants to consider some of the context, politics and philosophy of a range of artistic practices.
