A Transcription of a 28-minute Washing Machine cycle, scored for 6 amplified double bassists and 3 percussionists playing scrap washing machines with sticks, brushes and branches.
This was my first large scale project after graduating. I was inspired by the musical structure of washing machine cycles, the way they have clear sections with specific textures and the way intensity increases and decreases. It was the first of a number of pieces in which I explored the sounding qualities of household goods and every day appliances.
