Door Frames

This album was my final project during my undergraduate at Birmingham Conservatoire. Songs were composed for guitar and voice, which I then orchestrated for strings, percussion, woodwind, brass and electronics.

It combined orchestration styles of Georges Enescu, Gerard Grisey, Steve Reich, Howard Skempton, Sgt Pepper’s Heart Club Band era Beatles, and Rain Dogs era Tom Waits. The songs were influenced by Doom rock bands like Earth, West African Griot songs, the very 00’s sound of psychedelic folk artists like Joanna Newsom and Davendra Banhart, Early Queens of the Stone Age, and artists from the thriving 00’s Milton Keynes underground music scene in which I had grown up (as one of its youngest participants). At this point there was not much raga influence in there, except the melodic writing of the long strings interlude in Tubes, before it descends into chaos.
